India requirements at a glance

Buying dental software in India comes down to a short list of local requirements. This table states where Dentrah stands on each one today, including the things it does not do.

The Indian clinic workflow, end to end

A busy Indian practice mixes booked appointments with walk-ins, treats over several visits and takes payment in parts. The record follows that pattern instead of fighting it:

1. Walk-ins and appointments. The front desk books a patient against a doctor and time slot in the drag-and-drop scheduler, or drops a walk-in into the live queue, and sends a one-tap WhatsApp reminder from the appointment row using your own template. 2. Examination. The clinical examination and investigations, radiographs included, are recorded against the patient, and the findings carry into the plan rather than being retyped.
3. Odontogram. Findings go on the interactive 32-tooth chart in FDI notation — caries, filling, RCT, crown, extraction, implant or missing. See how the dental charting and odontogram software works.
4. Treatment plan priced in INR. Each finding becomes a plan line priced from your own rupee price list and tracked from started to finished, with notes on the plan and on each procedure that can be dictated by voice in the browser. Our guide covers how to write dental clinical notes.
5. Prescription. The medicine catalogue fills dosage, frequency and duration, and the prescription prints on the clinic letterhead.
6. Itemised invoice with part payments. Quantity, price and discount per line, part payments across visits, and the outstanding balance on the same record. Our guide sets out what every dental invoice should show.
7. Associate doctor share. Visiting and associate doctors' commission is calculated per invoice line on net, after discount, lab cost and procedure cost, with payouts recorded. The arithmetic is worked through in dental doctor commission calculation.

Price in rupees

Set the clinic currency to INR and rupees are used throughout the software. Plans are charged per clinic per month, not per user, so adding a receptionist or a second doctor does not change the price.

• Priced per clinic per month, not per user; staff logins are not charged per seat.
• Published in INR, USD, GBP; the exact amount and payment route are confirmed with the clinic before billing.
• No setup fee and no onboarding or data-import fee.
• No long-term contract; a clinic can move from the limited plan to the recommended plan at any time.

GST on dental invoices

Under Notification No. 12/2017-Central Tax (Rate), health care services by a clinical establishment or an authorised medical practitioner are exempt from GST, and the notification's definition of health care excludes cosmetic procedures except where they restore or reconstruct function. So most clinical dental treatment is billed without GST, while purely cosmetic work and goods sold separately can be taxable.

Dentrah has no GST module: an invoice shows your own prices, and tax on anything taxable is neither calculated nor filed. That suits an exempt clinic issuing plain itemised bills, and it does not suit a clinic that needs tax-inclusive invoices out of the software. UPI and how patients pay

Most Indian patients pay by UPI, and that is unchanged by Dentrah: it does not process UPI payments and does not connect to an Indian payment gateway. The clinic collects on its existing QR code or machine, then records the payment against the invoice as cash, card or bank transfer. Part payments are supported, so a plan paid across three visits leaves a correct outstanding balance and correct collection reports.

What you get is an accurate record of who owes what; what you do not get is collection inside the software. If taking payment inside the software is a requirement, say so before you trial.

ABDM and ABHA

Dentrah is not integrated with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and cannot create or link ABHA numbers or share records over ABDM. For a private clinic paid directly by patients this rarely comes up. For scheme work or empanelment that requires ABDM linking, it is a deciding factor today, and no date is promised.

Where clinic data is stored

Records are held in the cloud on dedicated servers rather than on a computer in the clinic, so a failed reception machine does not take the patient history with it. The data is not hosted in India. Each clinic account is isolated and every staff member has an individual login with per-module permissions. If a contract, a hospital tie-up or your own policy requires patient data to stay on servers in India, Dentrah does not meet that requirement.

Who it suits, and who it does not

The complete list of what the software does not do:

• Payments are recorded, not collected: there is no built-in card or online payment processing, and no payment-gateway integration.
• No insurance claim submission or electronic claims processing.
• No national health-record or e-prescribing integration.
• Support is provided remotely, in English, over WhatsApp and email, Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM IST (UTC+5:30). There is no in-person or on-site support.
• The software interface and voice dictation are in English.
• No tax module: invoices show the clinic's own prices, and tax such as GST or VAT is not calculated.
• Not yet available: patient self-booking and a patient-facing app.
• Not yet available: automated bulk SMS or WhatsApp sending (reminders are sent by staff, one tap at a time).

Support and getting started

• Nothing to install. It runs in a web browser, with Android and iOS apps on the same data. Dentrah runs on the jDent dental practice platform. Your clinic account opens at app.jdentclinic.com and the mobile app is listed as jDent in the app stores.
• Free first month. 30 days with every feature unlocked and no credit card, so you trial on real patients rather than sample data.
• Setup is your price list. Enter doctors, procedures and rupee prices on day one; everything after that is fast. No setup fee and no import fee.
• Existing records. Importable from spreadsheets or another system. Send a sample first so you know what transfers cleanly.
• Support. Remote, in English, over WhatsApp on +44 7403 455647 and email at business@dentrah.com, Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM IST (UTC+5:30). Enquiries are answered within one working day. There is no in-person or on-site support.
• Who you are dealing with. Dentrah is operated by Jantrah Tech Co UK Ltd, 60 Overstone Road, Luton LU4 8QZ, United Kingdom. The company is operated from the United Kingdom; there is no Indian office and no Indian phone number, and clinics in India are supported remotely during the Indian hours above.
